I wanted to announce that Abundant Life Apostolic Church in Oconomowoc,
Wisconsin, is hosting a workshop weekend and Deaf retreat. The dates of that
weekend are April 17 - 19, 2009. The Church will host the organization "The
Anointed Interpreter”, they are the organizers of this weekend of education
and spiritual teachings.
The Anointed Interpreter's mission is to bring Interpreter education to all
those who work in the Religious Interpreting field. Our goal is to ensure that
Interpreters have the ability to pursue an education in this important and
sometimes overlooked area of Interpreting.
Often Interpreters who donate their time and skill, to ensure that the Deaf in
their church can have the same spiritual experience as their hearing members
have, so they take on the burden of teaching themselves this language. The
outcome of this effort may not be what the Deaf in the community view as a
qualified interpreter. They are well intentioned; however, they never develop
the skills needed to interpret accurately in American Sign Language.
The Anointed Interpreter workshop is here to ensure quality education in the
Interpreting field. We will always bring you experienced Interpreters in the
field to teach you what you need to be a successful Religious interpreter. This
year’s workshop offers not only beginning – Advanced training, but we are
also offering a workshop by a Nationally Reknown Interpreter Educator: David N.
Evans. He will be presenting his workshop focused on the NIC Interview portion
of the National Exam. This workshop is offered to those whose goal it is to
become a Nationally Certified Interpreter.
